Why we are displaying banners at this site

The original rationale behind AIDA and this Website has been to try and help people and to do some good.
In this respect, AIDA remains a completely independent, non-commercial development. Both the downloadable AIDA software and the Web-based 'AIDA on-line' simulator are being made available totally without charge at this dot org (.org) not-for-profit Website (as well as at a .net US mirror site).
Our goal to try and help people and do some good requires that as many people as possible who are interested get to hear about AIDA and what diabetes simulations can offer.
As a not-for-profit venture with no formal funding, opportunities for advertising are very limited. Proper advertising costs money - and as there is no budget for this - such paid-for promotion is not possible. For the most part it would seem that the majority of people are finding the AIDA Websites via search engines and by 'word of mouth' referrals.
However as of July 2002 the AIDA Websites now receive on average some 6000-7000 hits per day, with some 8000-9000 unique visitors each month. While this is not bad for a not-for-profit site - we could reach a much larger audience - and certainly the AIDA Websites could handle considerably more traffic.
For this reason we have decided to enter the AIDA Websites into a targeted health-related 'banner exchange program'. For every three external banners displayed on the AIDA Web pages, two AIDA banners are displayed at other separate health Websites in the network. An example of an 'AIDA on-line' banner is shown below:
No money is involved, and no money changes hands. Rather the AIDA Website just capitalises on its existing levels of traffic to inform an even wider audience about the software.
In this respect, we have tried to target the external sites at which the AIDA banners will be displayed (to focus on diabetes, health, edcucation and science Websites). Similarly, we are mindful that AIDA Website visitors may be sensitive to the sort of banners displayed at the AIDA site. Therefore we have tried to restrict the sort of banner content that will be shown at this Website.
However if a certain banner slips through the net, and you feel that either it, or the site it advertises, is inappropriate (for whatever reason), please do feel free to let us know by using the on-line AIDA contact form.
Incidentally, we are in the process of restructuring the AIDA Web pages and have tried to make clear that the banners are advertisements. We have also endeavoured to make sure that the banners are as non-disruptive as possible to the display / layout of the Website. As usual if you have any comments / suggestions about these banners, any and all feedback would be most gratefully received.
Please note: Banner advertising from any company or institution at this site does not mean endorsement or support of them or their products, by any of the AIDA developers (or the AIDA Website).
However, we do hope that some of the banner advertisements displayed here will offer informative links to other interesting health-care sites.
Finally, if you would like to display an AIDA banner at your own Website, please feel free to do so. We very much appreciate links to http://www.2aida.org (or http://www.2aida.net for the AIDA US mirror site). For more information on linking to the AIDA site, please check out the AIDA Links Page, and for a selection of free AIDA graphics / banners, please do have a look at the AIDA Logos Page.
